Down Goes #1 Again! Champion Beats GLCC
Champion Christian used a blistering 3-point attack and a big second half to pull away from Great Lakes Christian, 86–79, on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 3, 2026) at the Doty Center.
After a tight first half, Champion Christian carried a 35–31 lead into the break, then raised its scoring pace in the second half, winning the period 51–48 to secure the seven-point road victory. The difference came from the perimeter: Champion Christian hit 15 threes on 39 attempts (38.5%), while Great Lakes Christian struggled mightily from deep, finishing just 2-for-18 (11.1%). Even though the Lakers got to the line often (23-for-34), the visitors' extra long-range production provided the separation.
Cam Parker spearheaded Champion Christian's offense with 24 points, drilling 6-of-13 from three and adding 10 rebounds and 4 assists for a double-double. Adrian Brown provided a major lift off the bench, pouring in 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. FredTravious Benjami also delivered a strong all-around scoring night with 21 points, knocking down four threes. Champion Christian's supporting cast helped in other ways as well—Damian Bohlman didn't score, but contributed 6 assists and 5 rebounds, helping the Tigers generate 22 assists on 29 made field goals.
Great Lakes Christian was led by Savonn Campbell's 22 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting, and Teon Armstrong added 17 points and 7 assists while getting to the free-throw line (7-of-8). Ty'emier Moore chipped in 11 points off the bench and LaTa'Vius Vaughter added 9, but the Lakers couldn't overcome the gap from three despite shooting a slightly better overall field-goal percentage (42.2% to 40.3%) and forcing 17 turnovers.
Champion Christian also controlled the glass, 44–35, including 15 offensive rebounds that helped create extra possessions in key moments.
