Lady Tigers Dominate Simmons, Get A Top 10 Win
Champion Christian College used a balanced attack and a decisive edge from the perimeter to pull away from Simmons (KY), earning an 87–68 win Saturday afternoon (Jan. 10, 2026) in Louisville.
Champion Christian set the tone early, jumping in front 23–15 after the first quarter and extending the margin to 38–25 at halftime. Simmons showed more fight late—winning the fourth quarter 27–26—but the deficit built over the first three periods was too large to overcome as Champion Christian carried a 61–41 advantage into the final frame.
The biggest difference came from three-point range and overall efficiency. Champion Christian shot 41.3% from the field (31-of-75) and knocked down 9 threes on 25 attempts (36.0%). Simmons struggled to match that output, finishing at 34.4% overall (21-of-61) and just 3-of-19 from deep (15.8%). Champion Christian also converted at the line (16-of-20, 80.0%), while Simmons left points behind by going 23-of-40 (57.5%) at the stripe.
Jaylen Edmonson powered Champion Christian with a game-high 27 points, drilling 7-of-10 from three and adding four assists and three steals in 38 minutes. Jordan Hammons posted a strong all-around line with 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and five steals, while Nailia Silva added 16 points and six rebounds, including five offensive boards that helped Champion Christian generate extra possessions. Olivia Sepulvado chipped in 13 points and five rebounds.
For Simmons, Morgan Defoor led the way with 21 points on 6-of-16 shooting and 7-of-12 free throws, though she also had six turnovers and was assessed a technical foul. Christen Stone provided a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Kira Girton contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. Simmons did win the rebounding battle 42–37 (including 19 offensive rebounds), but turnovers (18) and cold three-point shooting prevented a sustained comeback.
With the victory, Champion Christian improved to 11–1 overall, while Simmons moved to 4–6.
