Slow Starts Continue to Stunt Tigers

Oklahoma City, Okla.

This Thursday the Tigers travelled to Oklahoma City, OK to take on the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles (NCAA D2). Champion Christian College Tigers would face the same struggles they have all year, failing to get going early in the game. At the first media timeout, Champion was only down 9-7 after two free throws from Braylon Hawkins, but the team would go very cold from the field shortly after. In 8 minutes, Oklahoma Christian would go on a 18-3 run, and would keep a comfortable lead the rest of the half. The offense would find some rhythm going into the half, but defensively there wasn't many stops and the score was 48-23, Oklahoma Christian with the lead.

To start the second half, Coach Capaci had the Tigers fired up and ready to go, looking like a totally different team playing with some new found energy and enthusiasm. Champion would eventually go on a 10 point run, fueled by Braylon Hawkins and AJ Williams. Unfortunately, Braylon Hawkins would pick up his 4th personal foul and have to check out of the game, and with Oklahoma Christian going into a zone, they would go on a 12-0 run to push the lead out where it would be too much for the Tigers to come back from.

Notable performances from the game:

Braylon Hawkins - 35 points, 7 rebounds, 12-19 FG

AJ Williams - 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals
