Tigers Score 105 in SW Region Win

Hot Springs, Ark.

The Tigers faced off against NCCAA Southwest Region foe Arlington Baptist in what may go down as the highest scoring game of the 2022-2023 season for Champion Christian College. After getting out to a quick early lead, The Arlington Baptist Patriots clawed their way back into it to make this a game for the majority of the contest. In the end, Champion would pull away in the second half, winning 105-92. The Tigers had 5 players score in double figures, and all 11 players who player scored.

Champion was able to get out to a quick start offensively behind some great opening minutes from every Tiger Starter. The 5 took turns scoring, as every player got to score consecutively. The Tigers would get out to a 21-10 lead due to stifling defense and smooth passing, but Arlington made it clear they weren't going to go out without a fight, and after a 10-2 run they cut the lead to just 3. The rest of the half would stay about the same, with both teams shooting at incredible clips from the field. Arlington finished the half shooting 56% from the field and 54% for 3, while the Tigers shot 56% from the field and 11% for 3. Turnovers helped the Tigers stay ahead, as they forced 15 and kept a 5 point lead going into half up 55-50.

After a quick 5 points from Jason Garcia to start the half, and 2 massive dunks for Xavier Hall, Champion started the half firing on all cylinders. Jumping out to a 12 point lead 66-54. But for every run Champion would go on, it seemed like the Patriots had an answer to stay within swinging distance, going on a quick 6-0 run -themselves. But in the end, the Tigers never folded, and never quit. Marcus Blakely was able to come down with a 5-0 run on his own, and Champion just kept clawing to push the lead up. The lead never stopped climbing, getting all the way up to 15 before a late 3 by Arlington dropped the lead to 12. A poor shooting night for 3, Champion was able to over come that by shooting 71% on their 2 point attempts. They also finished the game forcing 27 turnovers, and had 27 assists on offense.
