Tigers Go 1-1 In Dallas

Dallas, Texas

Champion Christian College travelled this weekend to Dallas, TX to take on Regional Rivals Arlington Baptist College and Dallas Christian College in a back to back. The first matchup was against Arlington Baptist. Somewhat of a rival for Champion, and with the Tigers winning the home matchup, Arlington was ready to go, and the Tigers were not. After a 2 point half time deficit, playing without Xavier Hall, Josh Walpole, and Kyle Young proved to be too much of a task for the Tigers. Champion would fall 87-72, the lowest point total all year for the Tigers. AJ Williams flirted with a triple double in the loss, scoring 15 with 9 assists and 9 rebounds. Braylon Hawkins and Jason Garcia both scored 12, shooting 5/10 and 5/11, respectfully.

Dallas Christian was a great showing for both teams. With Dallas on a 4 game win streak, and Champion looking to bounce back, both teams needed a win to try and improve on their regional standings. To start the game, it looked like a repeat of the Arlington game. Champion was scoring, but struggling to get stops, and Dallas took full advantage in the first half. Falling down by as many as 18, the Tigers would go into half down 54-44, their largest halftime deficit all year. After half, Champion Christian looked like a new team, feeding off the energy of the crowd and the bench. After a 12-4 run in the first 5 minutes of the second half, Champion was only down 2, and right back in the game. From then on, it was a back and forth affair, with Dallas stretching the lead back to 6. Champion would then make their final push, going on a 25-6 run to take a 13 point lead. After some clutch late game calls by coach Mo Capaci, Champion would end up pulling out the win, 97-93.

Damian Bohlman in his first career start went off for 22 points, shooting 8/11 from the field.

KJ Corder led all scorers with 23 points on 7/9 shooting.

AJ Williams stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Jason Garcia added 15 on 5/9 shooting

Braylon Hawkins flirted with a double double, finishing with 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Tazz Glover and Dillan Hopkins brought some incredible intensity and hustle, playing the whole 25-6 run.
