Champion MBB Sweep NAIA Bacone

Hot Springs, Ark.

Champion Christian Tigers took on The Bacone College Warriors (NAIA) for the second time this year, winning the first match up 103-69. The second time around, Bacone was much more prepared, and came ready to play. Champion would end up getting the win, 89-73, but struggled to get going and really struggled to get stops.

In the first half, The visiting Warriors got anything they wanted on the offensive end. Shooting 60% from the field and 50% for 3, Champion quickly learned this would not be a push over game. It was a back and back affair for most of the first half, until the Tigers decided to play defense and get stops. A big 23-2 run from the Tigers saw a 1 point deficit go to a 20 point lead, forcing 5 turnovers in that span. The lead would stay there going into half, with Champion leading 54-38.

The second half was slightly better defensively for the Tigers, but Bacone stuck around and played hard the whole 40 minutes. Champion was able to push the lead to 25, but poor shooting to finish the game allowed Bacone to go on a run to cut it to 16. The Tigers would only score 35 points in the second half, but held the Warriors to 35 to keep the game even at 16. All but 2 Tigers players would score in the game.
