Champion Tigers End The Regular Season On Top

Hot Springs, Ark.

At the end of the 2021-2022 season last year, Champion Christian College Men's basketball team was hit with a huge task: Replace 9 players, 35% of the team's offensive output, and start brand new with an almost completely new team. Over the next few months, Coach Mo Capaci and Coach Hatfield worked meticulously to find good additions for the team on and off the court and checked off the first box in the off-season plans: get a new team. With 17 new players added, a new look Tigers were ready to be on the prowl. Another addition to the squad was Parker Gravitt, who would be taking the role of student assistant coach, but that title doesn't come close to giving him the credit he deserves for the hard work he puts in.

With that many new faces, there was a lot of question marks for the team. How would they fit? Would the 4 year returning players mesh with the 10 new freshmen? How would the new look Tigers team fare in the toughest region in the NCCAA? All those fair questions were answered in due time, since the Tigers spend most of their early season playing D1 opponents to fund their season. Opening up conference play with a loss, all eyes were on the Tigers taking on the Defending National Champions. In a close fought game, the Tigers pulled out a huge 78-75 win, and have gone on to win 13 of the next 14 games. Going into the Regional Tournament, here are some fun and interesting facts and stats showing the Tigers incredible improvement in just a years' time.

- 17-3 record, a major improvement from 11-14 a year ago

- 5-1 record against NAIA opponents

- 9-1 record in the Southwest Region

- 4th in offensive PPG

- 6th in win/loss margin

- Southwest Region Regular Season Champions

- #3 in NCCAA Coaches Poll

- #1 In NCCAA Power Ratings

The Tigers have built this season on hard work and fast paced, high energy basketball. Coach Mo had a vision for the team and the culture and is hitting all the boxes as far as success could be measured. Although Post Season success is the measuring bar for some, let's give the Tigers Men's Basketball team the love and recognition they deserve for an incredible regular season.

Next up for the Tigers is the Southwest Regional Tournament in Moore, OK. Stay tuned for more information on the tournament here on our website or on our social media!
