Lady Tigers Make History

The Champion Christian College Lady Tigers took care of business at home against the Kansas Christian College Falcons 109-46 Thursday night. Thursday night’s win marked the largest margin of win to happen in the history of a Lady Tigers' win, both at home and away. To add sprinkles on top, the Lady Tigers are now 3-1 against NCCAA DII competition.

Beginning at tipoff, the Lady Tigers came out with intensity and ready for battle. Sckiya Banister stole the ball in the first possession of the game and finished on the other end with an easy lay up. That first bucket set the flow for the rest of the game. 

In this game against the Falcons, every player from Champion was able to contribute to the final score. Champion’s Lady Tigers had 6 players scoring double digits, and 4 players scoring 6+. Led by Elisa Gonzalez (13 points, shooting 6-for-7) and Justys Irish-Holmes (13 points, shooting 5-for-10 and 3-for-6 from the three), the Tigers were able to get it done. Although the Falcons didn't go down without a fight, the Lady Tigers’ defense caused KCC 41 turnovers.

In the first half, the Lady Tigers were able to put up 53 attempts in the field against KCC. The Lady Tigers at the end of the half finished at the rim 23-for-53 (43%).To start the second half,  the Lady Tigers turned up their defense even more, allowing KCC to only score 4 points in the third-quarter. The Lady Tigers finished the second half at the rim 56% and 40% from the three.

Defense helped the Lady Tigers Thursday night to make history as they held KCC (5-5 for the season) to just 46 points and limited the Falcons to 37% from the field and 11% for 3. Imani Honey and Sckiya Banitser led in steals, with Honey having 7 steals and Banister having 5.
