Champion's Lady Tigers Move to 4-0 in Region Play

Hot Springs, Ark.

 

The Champion Lady Tigers moved to 4-0 in conference and 9-2 overall after hosting the Dallas Christian College Lady Crusaders Tuesday night.  

Lady Tiger’s Alysia Pickett came in hot within the first possession of the game: an offensive rebound followed by an easy 2 pointer in the paint. The very next possession for Champion, Sniper Pickett knocked down a 3. CCC finished the 1st quarter up 6 points: 21 to 14 against rival DCC.

Moving into the 2nd quarter, the Lady Tigers kept up their defense only holding the Lady Crusaders to 14 points again. Freshman Allyson Baker finished up the half with a heavily contested layup to put the Lady Tigers up 44 to 28. 

Coming into the second half, Dallas showed up making some tough shots and playing solid defense against the Lady Tigers. DCC outscored Champion in the 3rd by 8 points: holding Champion to only 16 points while scoring 22. By the end of the 3rd, Dallas put themselves back in the game by being down only 10: 60-50. This stirred up a fire in the Lady Tigers.

Though the Lady Tigers started with a few missed shots beginning the 4th, Aaliyiah Clark came in with a lay. Then on the defensive end, Kamryn Gentry protected her paint with a clean block that got the Lady Tigers going. In the 4th quarter, the Lady Tigers only allowed DCC to score 11 points and put up 27 against the SouthWest conference opponent. Champion came out on top 87 to 61.

The Lady Tigers were led by Alysia Pickett with 21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. Kamyrn Gentry followed behind with 15 points, 25 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Tori Hayes chimed in with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 block. Aaliyiah Clark added 12 points and 5 assists. With both Pickett and Gentry shooting 50% for the night, reserve Jeralyn Hardy also went 50% from the field (4-8) at 8 points on the night to contribute to another Lady Tiger win.
