A Phenomenal Shooting Night for Lady Tigers Secures a Win

Monday night, Champion was matched up with region opponent Barclay College. Both teams came into the game with matching records for the season: 9-2. For this night of competition, the Lady Tigers had one of their best shooting nights so far this season. CCC went over 75% from the field, over 80% from the 3 pointer, and went almost 83% from the charity stripe as well. 

Even with a great shooting night for the Lady Tigers, starting the night on a 9-0 run, the Lady Bears did not lay down easily. Within the last half of the 1st quarter, both teams were exchanging buckets and the 1st quarter ended with the Lady Tigers only up by 6: 27-21. The Lady Tigers knew going into the 2nd quarter they had to lock in and they did so on both ends of the court. Champion held BC to just 9 points in the 2nd quarter while still putting up 23 points to finish the half 52 to 30.

Going into the 2nd half the Barclay Lady Bears put up a dog fight with the Lady Tigers. Finishing the 3rd quarter both teams scored 23 points. With great efforts from the Lady Bears, it still was not enough to dig themselves out of the whole CCC put them in. Starting the 4th quarter with the Lady Tigers still up 22 points, the Lady Bears couldn’t find an answer to the Champion Tigers. CCC’s defense was aggressive and held BC to just 9 points in the 4th. Champion scored 19 points in the 4th quarter finishing the game 98 to 62. CCC moves to 5-0 in region play and 10-2 overall.

All 5 starters for the Lady Tigers shot 50% or greater for the night. Aaliyiah Clark led the team with 32 points and 6 steals, Justys Irish-Holmes got hot from the 3 and finished with 20 points and 4 rebounds. Tori Hayes chimed in with 14 points, Alysia Pickett added 10 points, and Kamryn Gentry ended the night with another double-double: 12 points and 13 rebounds.
